Fuzhou New Area Aims to Deepen Exchanges and Cooperation with Taiwan

The State Council recently issued the Reply on Approving the Establishment of the Fuzhou New Area for the purpose of forging closer exchanges and cooperation with Taiwan, exploring the path of new urbanisation, and becoming one with the "Belt and Road" strategy.
The Reply gave the green light to the establishment of the Fuzhou New Area in the coastal areas of Fuzhou city. Initially it will have a planned area of 800 sq km and cover parts of Mawei district, Cangshan district, Changle city and Fuqing city. Ideally located in an area with a beautiful ecological environment, the new area boasts a solid industrial foundation and is in an important strategic position for forging close exchanges and cooperation with Taiwan. It called for efforts to take building well the Fuzhou New Area as an important measure for implementing China's overall regional development strategy and the series of important policies for supporting Fujian's economic and social development, achieving closer cross-Strait exchanges and cooperation from a higher starting point, in a broader scope and in wider areas, promoting Fujian's active participation in and full integration with the "Belt and Road" strategy, striving to foster new economic growth areas, and achieving integrated development in the Pingtan Comprehensive Experimental Zone.
The Fuzhou New Area will have the deepening of cross-Strait exchanges and cooperation as its main objective, embrace opening up, cooperation, reform and innovation as the driving force, make exploring the path of new urbanisation its priority, and promote integrated urban-rural development. It will strive to build itself into an important carrier for cross-Strait exchanges and cooperation, an important gateway for further opening up, an important modern industrial base along China's southeastern coast, a demonstration area for reform and innovation, and a pioneering area for ecological civilisation.
