State Council Issues 13th Five-Year Plans for Food and Drug Safety

China’s State Council has approved the 13th Five-Year Plan for national food and drug safety in an executive meeting on 3 February, outlining the following priorities for supervision.
1. Strengthen the whole process of supervision: enforce local safety responsibilities, carry out source control of pesticides and veterinary drug residues. Strengthen supervision of authenticity of drug clinical trial information, and prevent drug safety incidents.
2. Step up random checks and risk warning: follow through extensive random checks covering all categories and varieties of food, blood products and vaccines, as well as essential drugs, enhance risk surveillance and assessment and emergency response capabilities.
3. Strengthen the technical support: speed up the amendment to national safety standards of food, boost the standards of drug, medical equipment and cosmetics. Carry out online supervision through “internet plus” and "big data", strictly implement the safety responsibilities of the production, operation, use, testing and supervision of food and drugs.
