Mexico Considering Standards for Mobile Terminal Equipment
04 August 2017
Mexico is seeking input from interested parties by 15 September on a proposal (PROY-NOM-221-SCFI-2017) that would set new mandatory standards for mobile terminal equipment that can use the radio spectrum or can be connected to telecommunications networks. Specifically, the proposal would require the FM radio broadcast receiver functionality of the mobile terminal equipment to not be blocked and establish specific requirements for the International Mobile Equipment Identify (IMEI) number that such equipment must bear. Subject merchandise would have to comply with the provisions of Technical Disposition IFT-011-2017 – Part 1, and undergo appropriate testing to ensure compliance with that standard. These requirements would enter into force 60 days from the date of publication of a final regulation in Mexico’s official journal.
