Guangdong Prioritises Strategic Emerging Industries in New Five-Year Plan

Increasing the GDP contribution of its strategic emerging industries to 16% of the province-wide total is one of the primary aims of a new five-year plan announced by the local government in Guangdong. Billed as the 13th Five-Year Plan for the Development of the Strategic Emerging Industries, the policy document also spells out plans to increase the GDP contribution of the larger high-tech business to 30% of the total, while also ensuring that 75% of the province’s industrial technology concerns are self-sufficient by 2020.
Among the sectors targeted for priority development are the following:
- Next-generation information technology
- Biotechnology
- Advanced equipment and new materials
- Environmental protection (including low-carbon businesses)
- Digital innovation
- Strategic planning
