A HKTDC Research survey shows that nearly half of Hong Kong start-ups were interested in expanding into the GBA market, yet different institutional systems and the uncertain market conditions there have exacerbated the difficulties. However, opportunities still exist in the GBA depending on the nature of their business, with start-ups whose activities are in line with the directions of the GBA’s overall development poised to benefit. A study conducted by HKTDC Research found that start-ups are satisfied with the support provided by the Hong Kong government, yet opportunities for raising funds in the private market are few and far between. While respondents recognised the advantage in accessing overseas markets, they considered the technical ability of local workforce rather low. Companies in trending industries tend to be more satisfied with the domestic start-up ecosystem. More

While Hong Kong’s start-up ecosystem continues to grow, its overall performance still has room for improvement.
