China Regulates Export of Medical Supplies to Ensure Quality

China has adopted new measures to ensure the orderly export of medical supplies to support global efforts to combat the Covid-19 pandemic, according to Announcement No. 5 [2020] jointly issued by theMinistry of Commerce, the General Administration of Customs and the National Medical Products Administration on 31 March. Export control measures are now exercised to ensure the quality and safety of the export products. Starting from 1 April, enterprises exporting Covid-19 test kits, surgical masks, medical protective clothing, ventilators and infrared thermometers must submit written or electronic statements that the export products have obtained domestic medical device registration certificates and meet the required quality standards of the import country (region) when making customs declaration. The Customs will grant release for such exports with the support of the medical device registration certificate issued by the medical products administration.
