China Updates Catalogue of Industrial Products Subject to Quality and Safety Supervision

The State Administration for Market Regulation (SAMR) recently issued a new National Catalogue of Key Industrial Products Subject to Quality and Safety Supervision (2020 Edition). The catalogue covers 269 products in 13 categories: cultural, educational and sporting goods; home appliances and accessories; electronics and information technology products; elderly care products; children’s products; furniture and decorative building materials; garments, hats and home textiles; daily chemicals and sanitation products; means of transport and related products; food and related products; daily sundries; industrial means of production; and agricultural means of production.

The SAMR requires local market regulators to make use of big data analytics technologies to collect product quality and safety data through diverse channels, including routine supervision, inspection and testing, recall notifications and reports on complaints. More analytical studies will be conducted on product quality and safety to identify where problems lie.
