China Allows Imports of Recycled Iron and Steel Materials

A new national standard “Recycling Iron-Steel Materials” (GB/T 39733-2020) released by the State Administration for Market Regulation on 14 December 2020 came into force on 1 January 2021.

According to an announcement jointly issued by the Ministry of Ecology and Environment, National Development and Reform Commission and three other central government departments at the end of December 2020 (No. 78 [2020]), recycled iron and steel materials that meet the afore-said national standard can be imported freely since they do not constitute solid waste. The customs commodity codes of the items concerned are 7204100010, 720410010, 7204900010, 7204410010 and 7204490030.
