Technology Innovation Helps Create New Western Region Development Model

According to a circular recently issued by the Ministry of Science and Technology in conjunction with the local governments concerned (Guo Ke Fa Qu No. 336 [2020]), it is targeted that by 2025 the innovation environment in the western region will be significantly improved, with innovation capabilities continuing to accelerate. By 2035, the innovation pattern in the western region will be optimised, lending effective force to resolving the problems of regional imbalance. The western region is envisioned to contribute to the establishment of a new development model which has domestic circulation as its mainstay and where domestic and international dual circulations complement each other. The proposed measures include building ‘innovation high grounds’ with special characteristics of their own, accelerating the enhancement of innovation capabilities and establishing multi-tier sci-tech co-operation platforms and safeguard measures.
