China Unveils Plan for New Urbanisation and Integrated Urban-Rural Development in 2021
06 May 2021
On 8 April, the National Development and Reform Commission issued a notice (Fa Gai Gui Hua No. 493 [2021]) regarding plans for new urbanisation and integrated urban-rural development in 2021. Tasks specified include the orderly and effective urbanisation of migrant populations from rural areas, the coordinated development of large, medium-sized and small cities and small towns, and the accelerated development of modern cities.
The notice puts emphasis on the formulation of implementation plans for the coordinated development of the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region, the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area and the Yangtze River Delta during the 14th Five-Year Plan period and for the construction of inter-city railways in those areas and other key city clusters.
